Perl’s suggestion that faith schools should be free to discriminate in terms of religion (supporting, for example, the decision that schools should be able to exclude pupils if their mother had only ‘married’ into the religion), highlights the real fact that these schools are, in Pearl’s own words, at the “cutting-edge of fighting assimilation”.
