I appeared on the ‘100 Campaigns that Changed the World’ podcast to coincide with the 10 year anniversary of the Marriage (Same-Sex Couples) Act, and to discuss the decades-long campaign for equal marriage in the UK.
Long before working for Humanists UK, I was involved in campaigning for marriage equality, starting in the late 90s. Fast forward to the years preceding the Act (2011-2013), I took part in public debates across the country, arguing in favour of this historic Act. Many grassroots organisations and campaigns contributed towards its successful passing including, of course, Humanists UK (which has been conducting non-legal same sex marriages since the second half of 20th century) and I’m proud to have been part of the movement!
We cover everything from changing public opinion, to the political landscape which allowed its passing, and the barriers to, and enablers for, change.
Do have a listen!
